Position Overview
The Proficiency Assessment Specialist conducts and evaluates student performance to determine language ability on the Credit Through Testing State approved exam or Nationally normed assessments. The purpose of these language assessments is to determine the students’ proficiency level for course placement, awarding high school credit, as appropriate, or meeting the criteria for the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conducts detailed language assessments of students who have a home or heritage language other than English.
- Prepares and writes reports including results of assessments, interpretations of scores, recommendations for improvement, as needed.
- Consults and collaborates with other proficiency assessment assessors regarding students’ performance and language use.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or higher, from a university or college
- Native or superior proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in the language assessed
- Experience assessing student language performance or proficiency preferred
- Proficiency in one of the following languages is preferred: American Sign Language, Amharic, Bengali, Farsi, Gujarati, Japanese, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Nepali, Pashto, Punjabi, Turkish and Vietnamese

Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Salary: Banded Rates, Band 10
Salary: $29.17/hourly
