Job Overview

The Parts Inventory Specialist is responsible for providing service to the Garage Technicians, Team Leads Drivers and external customer by providing parts, supplies, and other equipment as needed for Fleet services. Maintains several storerooms with nearly 250,000 parts totaling nearly $930,000 in value. The team of inventory specialists issue over 130,000 parts annually totaling nearly $3.2M  Research is frequently required using fleet maintenance software, direct vendor contacts, manufacturers web sites and various online sources. An employee in this position is responsible for maintaining multiple parts storerooms, as well as ordering equipment, parts, and materials to support maintenance and repair work, EV chargers, tablets, Wifi, camera systems and other vehicle related technology. The Specialist ensures parts inventories are maintained at the optimum level for cost-effective operation to meet maintenance needs.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or GED

 

Experience

Two (2) years of experience in record-keeping, inventory control or related area

 

Licenses and Certifications

EPA 609 certification to handle R134A and 1234YF refrigerant

Forklift operator certification

Training and certifications from Thomas Built Bus, IC Bus, Blue Bird Bus, Cummins, Bendix brakes, Meritor, Braun, Ricon

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform stockroom duties efficiently; to learn the types and categories of parts and supplies used in facilities maintenance work; to follow oral and written instructions; to communicate effectively; to work cooperatively with others

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently standing and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. The employee must be able to climb or descent stairs while carrying small parts. The employee is also frequently required to use their hands to feel and handle objects or tools, as well as reach with their hands and arms. The employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force individually, and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds. The employee must also be able, using negligible amounts of force, to frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Hazards include potential exposure to battery acid, electric shock, and flammable liquids such as gasoline, diesel fuel, and cleaning fluids.

Essential Personnel

Employees who perform the responsibilities of this position for the Department of Support Services are considered essential personnel. Essential personnel are designated employees who must report for work during a delay or emergency situations. A workplace emergency is an unforeseen situation that threatens the staff, pupils, or the public; disrupts or shuts down business operations; or causes physical or environmental damage. Emergencies may be natural or manmade. It is incumbent upon the supervisor to inform and confirm which essential personnel are required to work during emergency closings. Notification and confirmation of the expectation of essential personnel to report to work, or maintain as-needed status, will be executed with as much advanced notice as possible via in-person communication or email.
