Position Overview
A job coach is a teacher assistant position that requires specialized skills and training.
Roles and Resonsbilities
Job coaches provide short-term support to students who are learning new jobs in the school or in the community.
- Assists in setting work plans for students including accommodations, scheduling, transportation, and task analysis
- Provides direct support and systematic training to students working in the community; assists in travel training
- Collects data on student progress in the work environment; assists in the social integration of students in the workplace
- Trains students to the level of independence and fades support on the job
- May support students from other schools when necessary
- Performs related work as required
Qualifications
- Applicants must have excellent communication and decision-making skills and be comfortable working in the community
- Graduation from high school, supplemented by course work in child development or STEM related field, and experience working with children; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
- Knowledge of student behavior as applied to children; of the language, culture, and other characteristics of the families whose children are enrolled in Loudoun County Public Schools
- Ability to work effectively with children; to carry out designated instructional assignments properly; to note and record student behavior; to supervise student behavior and learning activities; to perform general clerical work
- Performs related work as required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
